2/3 - 4 = x/2

6(x/3) - 6(4) = 6(x/2

2x - 24 = 3x

2x - 24 - 2x = 3x - 2x

(x/3) - 4 = (x/2)

add 4 to both sides and subtract (x/2) from both sides

(x/3) - (x/2) = 4

multiply everything by 6 (the greatest common factor)

(2x) - (3x) = 24

combine like terms

-x = 24

divide both sides by -1

x = -24

x/3-4=x/2

-4=x/2-x/3

-4=3x/6-2x/6

-4=x/6

-4*6 = x

x = -24

Generally we like to get rid of fractions if we can. Multiplying through by 6 does just that, and we get 2x - 24 = 3x. Now the equation should look much nicer. Just subtract 2x from both sides and you get -24 = x.

x/3 - 4=x/2
times both sides by 2 to get
2x/3 - 8=x
then times both sides by three to get
2x-24=3x
remove 2x from both sides to get
x=-24
