It measures 33”length x 38”width x 7”deep. My local sand supplier sells by 5 gallon bucket and doesn’t take returns so I don’t want to buy to much and we live so far out of town I don’t want to make 2 trips.

One U.S. gallon is 231 cubic inches, so 5 gallons is 1155 cubic inches. The container you want to fill is 33 * 38 * 7 cubic inches or 8778 cubic inches. Dividing this by the number of cubic inches per bucketful gives 7.6 buckets. I am assuming that you have no other use for the sand and won't want to keep the excess around for topping off the sandbox, so I would suggest underfilling the sandbox slightly and get 7 bucketfuls of sand.

33" = 2.75',...38" = 3.2',...7" = 0.6'

2.75 x 3.2 x 0.6 = 5.28 ft³
1 ft³ = 7.5 gallons (US)
You'll need 5.28 x 7.5 = 39.6 (say40 gallons)
You'll = 8 buckets of sand.

If you're UK 1ft³ = 6.24 gallons
5.28 x 6.24 = 33 gallons. = 7 buckets (with 2 gal. to spare)
