usually it is around 30 credit hours . . . at most schools, 12 credit hours (approximately 4 classes) is considered full-time . . . however, if you are a freshman and only take 12 credits both fall and spring semesters, you will only have 24 credits, meaning for you to be considered a sophomore in the fall, you need to take 6 credits (2 classes) over the summer or average 5 classes (15 credit hours) per semester
that is why it takes people 5 and 6 years to graduate . . . it is virtually impossible to finish college in 4 years if you are taking the minimum 12 credit hour full-time student load, without taking classes during the summer semester

it depends on the institution you attend. I went to a college where the average class was 4 credits and you were expected to take approximately 4 classes a semester. That's 32 credits per year so 32 credits by the end of your freshman year.
Some colleges do 3 credits per class and prefer an average of 5 classes per semester. That's 15 credits a semester or 30 credits by the end of the first year. I suggest you check the website of the college or university you attend to see this sort of information
