You should look like the models in the fashion magazines.
You do NOT need a modeling portfolio.
The TOP modeling agencies in New York City, pay for the photo shoot to build your portfolio.
Once the model makes money from booking assignments, the agency takes the money the model made, as payment for the photographs.
If you end up with a scam modeling agencies, they can charge you any amount of money for photos that are not professional.

I depends on what kind of modeling that you want to do but I would suggest getting yourself an excellent portfolio together and getting it out to the top agencies as soon as possible. From there just remember that a model is a model all the time so you must look and act the part constantly. You never know who you might run into on the street. Good Luck!!

You need to create a diverse portfolio. Show your commercial/editorial appeal. You can then start shelping to different agencies in order for them to give a chance.
What you also can do is create a buzz around yourself...make something out of nothing (do what you have to)...they are may legitimate website that posts open casting calls. Go to them and get you face out there.
You also have to find out what your "thing" is. What makes you better than every other pretty face that on the street? Then make that your signature

Get a really good agent. There are tens of thousands of people who are trying to get into modeling. You need someone with inside connections who can lead you in the right direction.

you need a portfolio of photographs. have a professional take lots of pictures of you in all sorts of poses and hairstyles and outfits. then have copies made and take them to modeling agencies.
