Sounds like you have a lot of background programs running. Go to tuneup.com and download tune up utilities, this program is great (I am very impressed with this program, so, much so that I actually purchased it, from a scale of 1-10, my tech level is about 8), after you install the program, run the system adviser. It will show you what is going on, and help you correct some of the programs.

When you press cntl alt del what programs are shown as running? Go into the Control Panel, Start Menu and Task Bar. Delete all programs you do not need when you first boot your computer. You can go to them individually on your as needed basis to open them, just press Start, All Programs and find them there. Good luck.

my computer did that one time. I thought it was the hard drive. so I replaced it with a brand new faster hard drive and reinstalled a fresh copy of windows and it did the same thing. Turns out I had a lot of dust on my fan on the inside of the computer. I took some canned air and blew it out. Works like a dream now! I've had my compaq going on 7 years and it works better than my brand new HP Laptop.

Your on the verge of a super crash where you will have to format and reinstall. Try deleting some programs and definitely clear out your cookies.
