Yes mine has been on none stop for the last 3 years other than occasional reboots for installing software and updates. However I use standby I have my computer set to stanby automatically after 20 minutes of inactivity and have the monitor set to turn off after 20 minutes. It is nice this way because you are still saving some power but dont need to boot up each time you want to use it just move the mouse or hit a key on the keyboard and you are right back to where you left off. You can use hybernate too but i prefere not to as it is a waste of hard drive space and my computer seems to respond slower when resuming from hybernation. I hope this answers your question Good Luck

Turn it off. When your pc is on 24/7 you will reduce the life of the power supply, fans, and hard drives. Besides that you will have a piece of equipment running which produces heat and would not only increase you electric bill for running the pc, but also AC costs. That is unless you live somewhere very cool in the summer. Either way you waste money leaving it on all the time and hurt the environment.

It's okay, but, if you're using a laptop, and want to prolong the life of the battery, consider. I've seen various opinions here on Yahoo! Answers...so someone may vehemently disagree...but I got this from a friend, a retired chemical engineer.

He suggested it improves the life of Lithium-Ion batteries to "exercise" them. Which is to say, run them down to "near dead", then plug in the computer and charge them up again, as opposed to keeping the computer plugged in and charging all the time.

I've gotten the same suggestion from folks who use, even, other tools around the house, like, say, carpenters who use saws and drills and such...

So, maybe, ya otter consider unpluggin' er for that reason.

Also, laptops are endemic to overheating. (Mine did, twice this year! I had to rebuild the OS and re-install all the software and personal info from backups...grr...) See, the fan's on the bottom. Unless you keep the PC propped up, there's a good chance not enough air gets to it, and the battery gets warm anyway! So there's yet another reason to power down!

Finally, always-on, if you're on broadband, gives the "bad guys" more time to sneak into your system...

I'd say, turn it off.

As long as your fans are configured correctly insode your pc and it stays cool anough it should be fine. Its good practice to have 2 maybe 3 excluding the CPU fan blowing cool air in and 2 fans excluding the Power Supply fan blowing the hot air out. Keep in mind that hot air rises so the extractor fans should be higher in the PC case that the ones blowing in. If you can have a fan blowing right on the CPU it will be great, for example one mounted the the side panel of the PC case. But a restart is good every now and then though. Hope this helps.

Listen to you all!!! the environment is being damaged by people using too much electricity and using the Earths resources. But hey, if you guys wanna kill the Earth in turn killing all of us, be my guest. Its not OK to leave your computer on at this time period as it is predicted that by 21 december, 2012 we'll all be dead becuase of people being unaware and using too much electricity. So DONT TALK ABOUT HOW THE FAN WILL BE OK, THINK OF THE EARTH WE LIVE ON!

I have my computer on everyday for an average time of 13 hours. Nothing strange has happened. (And I do need to have my computer on that much time)

Yes but the resources may begin to run low and then you have to reboot. Make sure you have everything on the correct power strip so that its properly protected during a storm.

A lot of people do, and I used to; however recently Ive been putting it on standby when I dont use it for a few hours or so. I believe you use less power(electricity) and give your harddrive and fans a rest.
