it seems the so-called trolls are after me, en masse!!! frankly, i don't understand why...i visit often but i'm not even considered a "regular" here...but one time i got involved in that controversy about MoneyM and i have been branded since then...i honestly think the trolls are just wasting their time on me coz i've reached my calmic point...i just don't care anymore...to me, they do not exist and therefore they are nothing

I believe there is a fine line between a troll and someone that is genuinely ignorant. The internet gives us a platform to ask and state views that we can't really do any where else. Like someone above said, sometimes a troll will get a lively discussion going on a topic that may otherwise never get brought up. I'm not condoning trolls, but they do serve a purpose to some degree. It would be quite boring if we all thought alike and had the same knowlege, it would defeat any purpose for this kind of site for sure.
Of course you do have the kids in here too. Teens, even pre-teens get on and say childish things, parents probably watching TV or working.
Alcohol is another factor. I myself have sat in front of a computer having more than a few drinks and end up posting some really stupid stuff.
I would be very hesitant to judge a poster from just a post or two. The topic may be extremely passionate to that person or they could just be having an off day. Of course the cronic trolls should be hung from there genitals!

My theory is that trolls have endured very unhappy childhood experiences, when in their early formative years they were deprived of the simple joys of youth that normal kids had. So one might say that trolls had a different exposure than most. That is why deep inside their psyche lies a hideous monster that wants to strike back at society that they think did them wrong. Therefore at every opportunity they want to exact revenge from anyone as a form of comeuppance, of getting even.
For them the Internet is a convenient tool to seek retribution because they can inflict harm to lots of people at once, from afar, from the relative safety and comfort of wherever they are, without revealing their identity. It's a drive-by. They have to do this because they do not have the ability to confront anyone face-to-face, in the light of day.
There were times in the past when they would annoy and rile me up a bit, but I have learned to ignore them nowadays, knowing that they have suffered enough.

it all just boils down to childish acts done by childish individuals. i used to be the same way (when I was like 13 lol). i used to log on to chatrooms (not Yahoo!) with 8 or more screen names and disturb people just because I could. it gave me a sense of power back then. now that I am 7 years older, i don't find it humorous anymore. just give it time, soon they will eventually give up and move elsewhere.

Its their own way of expressing themselves...
its up to the people here whether they will ignore them or not
maybe its their way of getting the attention that they want...

I've noticed that most people on YA who become "trolls" do so because they are jealous of those higher up on the leader boards, of top contributors, and of people with high percentage rates of BA. I think a lot of people also do it to get ahead, although there are no prizes for any of this.

Think of it as their second personality. They are dying to display such behavior but are not able to in their "real" lives so they do it here. Especially since they are given the opportunity to do it anonimously.
