Pudge Rodriguez is the the best all around catcher -
He's untouchable behind the plate, he has always swung a dangerous bat and he's intelligent - he knows how to call a game and he knows how to handle his pitchers.

Johnny Bench is a close 2nd for all of the same reasons but Pudge edges him out.

Mickey Cochrane and Yogi Berra would be neck and neck for third.

Added thought - how can anybody even consider Mike Piazza a great catcher? He's not even a good catcher. On his best day in his prime he might be a mediocre catcher and I emphasize MIGHT! Just because he can hit doesn't make up for his atrocious defense! He's probably the worst defensive catcher ever to make it to the majors! My sister could steal second base on him! I could beat out a bunt down the first base line against him. There is a reason that Oakland signed him as a DH and not a catcher... he can't play the position and he can't call a game to save his life! Mike Piazza will go down as the ball player with the most lopsided game in history (and that includes the considerations of Jason Giambi and David Ortiz occasionally trying to pass off as 1st basemen).

By the end of his career Ivan Rodriguez will be the more productive than either Fisk or Bench. He is a great all-around catcher; Piazza is great at swingin the stick but never could throw out a basestealer (fortunately he's AL now). Yogi was up there too but probably second to both Fisk and Bench.

Pudge is fun to watch play, he's a leader and brings it every day! That's why he gets my vote.

Johhny Bench. Great defensive catcher and also had great slugging numbers. Very clutch in the 1975 World Series. Hey I know he was slow, but even stole a base every once in a while.

Johnny Bench was the whole package as a catcher. Power hitter, great arm and fielder, and handled what was not always a great pitching staff masterfully.

I think that the best catcher of all time has to be Pudge, becuase he is a 13 time all star and has the most gold gloves out of all the catchers ever!!!!!!!

I know that he won't get any votes but, Jorge Posada. He is a long term, consistent catcher. He isn't an all-star but he has carried a mixed staff for coming up on 10 years.
