The elder Alexandre Dumas died of cancer. His son bar sinister, Alexandre Dumas the writer died on his sons estate (son was another Alexandre) though without wealth himself. Cause of death is uncertain as the medical business was even cruder in 1870 than it is today. He is thought to have developed diabetes and died from complications of that disease. Perhaps a "stroke" or perhaps "brain fever".
