The red light district is in the city centre. From Dam Square it's about a five minute walk to the center of the red light district.

Just walking around A'dam is fun, and so many buildings etc to take pictures of. If you want something more exciting, you'll find it by looking around the travel guides on the web. The red light district is closing down some of the windows, so if you go there, hurry. And don't try to take pictures, as someone will grab your camera and keep it. Actually, it is no big deal, so don't think that will be the highlight of your trip. Go to the flower market, and the shop that makes wooden shoes. And better yet, take a trip out of town to Marken or one of the outer areas. By train, it is a short trip and inexpensive. There are many travel books in the bookstores, so drop in, take a pen and paper, and write down some of the places to visit. Also, read Ricksteve's website, and you will find lots to see and do. Read the graffiti wall for more advice. Have fun. I lived there ten years and loved it. Holland is great. ,

About 5 mins from the Centraal Station, across the bridge that'll be on your left. Not far at all. Beware dodgy drug dealers on the bridge though.
