I was recently bit by ants & a mosquito. Even after showering they were still itching & wouldnt stop til I finally fell asleep. What is it that makes us itch soo bad? What can be used next time to stop the itching immediately? I tried rubbing alcohol on it in the middle of the night, cuz I woke up scratching the spots....didnt work...

Your body cells release histamine in response to the insect bite/sting. IT is these histamines that cause the itch response. That is why taking an oral ANTI-histamine or using a topical ANTI-histamine (such as benedryl) is effective in reducing the itch since it interferes with the release of the histamine.

You're experiencing a mild allergic reaction. You can get topical creams (benadryl, etc.) that will help. There is also a plant called Plantain (not to be confused with the banana-like plantain) which, if you bruise the leaf & place it "sun side" to the bite location will take the itch out of it.
The link I've provided will show you a good picture of it...

Mosquito's put in a liquid kind of thing (which makes the bump) in order to keep it from bleeding. It basically replaces the blood they took. As for ants..I'm not sure...?
