I see them all over Ebay, and they are DIY, so does anyone know where I can find the instructions to make one myself so I can choose all of my own fabric?

Here's a web site where they make a custom pattern for you. http://www.elizabethancostume.net/custompat/index.html
Having made a corset (bustier) and strapless graduation dress I know they have to be tight enough so you might need help to adjust it.
Covered boning is the easiest to sew on. You can take out the boning to sew it on each side of the seaming then replace the plastic boning. You might want to sew a 1/4 " wide twill tape at the top with the seam to prevent the boning from poking out through the fabric.
Good luck!

A lot of the vendors on ebay will customize if you ask. Also, check your fabric store for patterns. I've seen a few that don't look to difficult.

If they are selling them, they probably designed their own pattern. But since this one is for yourself, they do have lots of patterns in the fabric stores.

Instead of boning, try sandwiching the whole thing with drapery interfacing. It's stiff, cheap and doesn't poke you!

go to joann fabrics, look in the costume section of the pattern books, and go to it, the busk closing will cost you about 50 dollars and the boning isnt cheap either. have fun.

You can get all the hardware including boning and busk in the form of a kit here:

You can find a huge number of patterns at the same site here:
