Press and hold the CTRL key and type the numbers '0176' on the keypad (if you have it on your laptop) then release the CTRL key.
It works on a desktop...
Alternately, try this:
START> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Character Map
Locate the degree sign (right in the center - not the other thing on the left) and click it. Click the Select button then the Copy button. The symbol can then be pasted where desired.

You can add the degree symbol to emails by holding down the ALT key and pressing 0176. Make sure to hold down ALT while pressing all four numbers and it should display the degree symbol. As for adding it to web-based maps, I really can't help you there. ° See, I did it :)

PC = Alt + 0186
For this sign ----> °
MacOS = option - shift - 8
PC = Alt + 0176
