I wouldn't say that it can't be done. Sure there's always lot of emotional input into these types of discussions but very little or no scientific research to back it up. I don't know whether its possible to make a straight person gay, but its certainly possible to get a straight person to wilfully participate in gay sex, and I don't mean once (as in rape) but over and over again.
It might depend on how drunk or how horny or high the straight guy is, and money can also be a powerful motivator. It wasn't long ago that I was reading an article that many so-called gay porn stars are really straight men who do gay porn only for the money. The reason: The big porn studios don't pay heterosexual male porn stars as much money as they pay gay male porn stars. I don't know how the porn business works so that's all I have to say about that. There are also many male prostitutes on the streets who sell themselves both ways---even though they are not gay. In either event, you still have to stop and ask yourself how these guys are able to maintain erection and get to orgasm with other men, unless... If gay sex is as revolting to some straight guys as they say it is, then as a straight man, could any amount of money, drugs, or alcohol motivate you to have sex with another man? Evidently, yes!
Hey, I work in the medical field, and there's always new research coming out about stuff that nobody ever suspected was possible. This whole gay/straight/bi thing is a huge gray area that is still not fully understood. Most people are impassioned by the topic only because of what they read in the Bible. I believe in God, but speaking as a scientist, I believe there's a bit more to all this than we now understand.
I also believe that many more men than are willing to admit it are really bisexual, but some will probably never act out an impulse because of fear, shame, guilt, or whatever other Freudian crap the psychologists come up with next week. Some guys are really afraid of gay and bisexual people, and I think this is partly do do with their own inner fear of their own homosexuality. I've seen it soooo many times, you guys....!

Webhead28 has the Best Answer, and nearly complete. But let me just add more.
Jay's response alludes to a frequent claim/joke that the difference between a str8 [frat] guy and a gay one is a 6-pack of beer. Insofar as being willing to let a gay friend blow him, or to f**k the gay friend, and being turned on by the sensations enough to come, that's probably true--particularly when the str8 guy is young enough to be ridiculously horny. But that doesn't establish an abiding gay attraction!
In college, I once blew a (sober) str8 guy who was horny enough to ask me to, and off and on he moaned, "Just like a girl!" Whether that was to assist his fantasies so he could stay hard or only to convince himself that he wasn't really gay just because there was a guy working his crotch I don't know; but in fact I'm pretty sure he really was straight. (He was a nice guy; when he discovered that he'd come and I hadn't yet--altho I'd enjoyed myself enough to get close--he gave me a hand-job. Didn't take him long, but it was a really gentlemanly gesture!)

People who decide to "experiment", just to try something different, are a threat to the scientific standing that being gay is biological. In the example you gave, that person was more than likely never straight and was just waiting for the right person or moment to finally prove it to themselves.
Hermaphrodites for example, just because the parents perfer one sex over the other, doesn't mean the child is going to adhere to the preferred sex by the parents. The child is going to be what they are biologically determined to be. There is nothing you can change about that no matter how hard you try.

I don't think it's possible. A straight person can't make a gay person straight and a gay person can't make a straight person gay.

People are born with their sexual orientation. No one can make anyone turn gay or straight. The person was B.S.ing with an over abundance of confidence in themself. The straight person might be fascinated with and intrigued by the gay person, but the fact that the straight person would turn gay, is nonexistent.

The person who told you that was mistaken or they were lying. A person is either gay or straight. If the person had an inclination towards being gay, it would be possible to draw him/her out, but not change him/her.

They can't. Just like you can't make a gay person straight, you can't make a straight person gay. It just doesn't work that way.

Can't be done. If a person is gay or straight that is what they are. Whether they act on their impulses or not is another thing. Sexual preference can't be changed by another person, it is solely an indvidual thing. We are who we are.
