Bob, I knew you were old, but I didn't think you were old enough to have lived through ALL the presidents to know which is the worst speaker.

#1 is not obvious. You are probably thinking it's the current president because of all the media. Truth be told, it was probably James Buchanan for the worst, there just wasn't any television.

In the media age, perhaps Gerald Ford is second worst. Not dynamic, spoke in monotone, seemed plodding.

Further back, maybe Calvin Coolidge, whose taciturn disposition was legendary. One story had it that his wife had a visitor at the White House, a woman who was something of a gabber and a flirt. This visitor said to Coolidge, "Your wife told me that I couldn't make you say more than two words, and I told her that was ridiculous" - to which Coolidge replied, "Try me".

I don't know, but part of the reason why most people view Bush as the worst is because he had to follow Bill Clinton who is considered one of the best.

The Bushisms (ie. "is the children learning?") don't help Dubya out at all.

I've read that FDR was not a very convincing public speaker.

Sometimes you have to look past the presentation to see the meaning, I guess.

If you were president you would not be the answer.

I would say Carter=#1, Bush=#2.
