You have a lot of good information here. It depends on where and whom you are talking about. It is true that there is evidence that North America was settled prior to 13,000 years ago. There are many theories on how and where people came from, but the Bering Strait Bridge crossing is by far the most popular. We may never know an exact time. There were some great civilizations in the US and other parts of the Americas long before Europeans came along though.

Also, I thought I'd mention that the Chinese were here around 1000 years ago too.

The Spanish were in Florida and Texas as early as the 1540's and the oldest city in the US is St Augustines in Florida -1565. There was the failed first English settlement in Roanoke Virginia in 1586. Then came the first permanent English settlement at Jamestown Virginia in 1607. The Pilgrims landed at Plymouth in 1620. The Dutch settled in new Amsterdam , later to become New York City in 1624.

I believe as far as the first official settlement, that would be Jamestown, Virginia. It was settled in 1607.

Jamestown, 1607
FIRST SETTLERS

Who were the First Settlers? When the three (3) ships left London, there were 71 persons on the Susan Constant under Capt. Newport, 52 on the Godspeed under Capt. Gosnoll, and 21 on the Discovery under Capt. Ratcliffe, a total of 144 persons. The names of the crewmen are not known nor how many there were on each ship. As the First Settlers, 104 or 105 of these persons would remain in Virginia. This means that about forty (40) of the total intended to return with Newport. A list prepared by Captain John Smith, contained only 82 names. Suggesting that some may have died on the voyage over or some may have returned to England with Newport. Newport returned to England in June 1607 in the Susan Constant, sometimes called the Sarah Constant with an unknown number of persons. It is possible that some of the following returned with him as well as his crew. It is likely that some or all of the crew members of the Godspeed and Discovery stayed on in Jamestowne. We know the Discovery stayed. The Godspeed probably stayed as we know that Capt. Gosnoll stayed in Jamestowne. It is probable that the sailors were not considered as colonists as they stayed ship board and would go wherever the ship went Nevertheless, few mariners or sailors are listed. Those showing a (d) or (k) in the third column must have stayed as they are reported to have died or to have been killed before the First Supply arrived. Others who are known to have stayed are noted with an (s). Capt. Newport returned with the First Supply in June of 1608. Since only 50 of the original settlers survived to that date, we may assume that as many as 54 persons died. Only 26 are clearly stated as being dead, then 24 persons on the following list (including unnamed crewmen) either died or returned to England with Newport. The following list plus an unnamed number of crewmen of the two ships may be called the First Settlers.
