Calvin Johnson is a great player...no doubt about it and will have a tremendous career, but as good as he is, I think it's hard to justify taking a WR with the #1 overall pick. Receivers are lucky to be involved in 10-15 plays per game, and the Raiders desperately needed a young franchise QB. I also LOVE grabbing Michael Bush in the 4th Round. He's likely not going to contribute this year, but he is a great player that will be considered a steal when he replaces LaMont Jordan in the line-up in 2008. Overall, the Raiders had a very good draft to build for their future.

The defense was pretty good last year, but they need an offense and not to expect the defense to score all the points neede to win.
They did the right thing, their biggest need was a QB and not a wideout. In don't think Calvin Johnson was their answer, instead Joe Thomas would have made more sense. But for some reason they prefered to sign Jeremy Newberry and Cooper Carlisle instead of taking the best OT in the draft.
Dominic Rhodes was a nice add, also Michael Bush could be a steal like some years ago when the Bills drafted McGahee late in the draft because of injury concerns.
On defense they took Quentin Moses as a nice middle rounds pick.
I give them an A- in the draft.

yes...seriously messed up. They should have traded for a veteran QB to give that team some direction and leadership, then used the #1 pick on Calvin Johnson.
The only pick I like by them is RB Michael Bush in the 4th round. He might end up being the steal of the draft.
The Raiders need help now, not a rookie QB that will take 2-3 years to develop. They are going to throw Russell into the pits and he is going to be shell shocked like all the top QB busts over the past 5 years.

You cant screw up anytime you take such a quality QB as Jamarcus Russell! A quarterback in the second round would need more time to develop and wouldnt have the potential future that this guy has. Their greatest need is quarterback because if they had taken C. Johnson, who's gonna throw the ball to him?Good Job, Raiders.

The Raiders had a solid draft. Taking JaMarcus Rusell instead of Calvin Johnson was definitely the right pick since QB was their biggest need. They also got rid of the team cancer himself, Randy Moss, and were able to acquire WR Mike Williams from Detriot, who is still looking to have his first breakout year. Overall, I'd grade the Raiders draft as B-

HELL NO. They did the right thing in getting their franchise QB. They got a tight end in the second round and could have the potential steal of the draft in Michael Bush. The only thing they could have done different was address the offensive line unless they still think Robert Gallery is an NFL caliber player.

If they are going to make a serious attempt at rebuilding, then they started right, with a franchise QB. They got him a couple of targets and maybe a better running game.
They'll still be stuffed into the mud this year. But next year they pick up a better O-line and keep their defense solid. By year three they could actually be taken seriously in their division. Rebuilding takes time.

Ya really did screw up on their draft......NOT!
They didn't to address their offensive problems and they did just that selecting the best QB in the draft, TE in the 2nd, Two Wrs, and a possible steal in the 4t round with Michael Bush.
1 - JaMarcus Russell, QB
2 - Zach Miller, TE
3 - Quentin Moses, DE
3 - Mario Henderson, T
3 - Johnnie Lee Higgins, WR
4 - Michael Bush, RB
4 - John Bowie, CB
5 - Jay Richardson, DE
5 - Eric Frampton, S
6 - Oren O'Neal, FB
7 - Jonathan Holland, WR

looked pretty good to me, but it all hinges on Jamarcus Russell and how good he will be. I still say Adrian Peterson should've been the first pick in the draft; hes the next L.T.
They did pretty well in the later rounds too, but their o-line still should be pretty terrible which will make it hard for them to win many games in a tough AFC West

Only time will tell. They do need a QB and he may pan out, but without an offensive line to protect the QB no one can succeed in Oakland. Heck Andrew Walter is a very good QB but without a line he ran for his life half the time.
