You can install a roll-up shade on the outside of the window (outdoors.) Hanging it from the overhang of the roof is a convenient location. That way the heat from the sun is blocked before it enters the room. If sunlight passes through glass then hits a shade, it converts to heat that will stay in the room and raise the ambient temperature. Deciduous trees or plants that shade the window in the summer also work great and they drop their leaves and allow the sun the heat the room in the winter.

Do you own your own home, rent a house or live in an apartment. If an apartment or rental, interior solutions such as film or shades may be your best answer. If you own your own home and the room is on the first floor, you could place a large trellis outside your window and train a dense vine to climb up it to keep the sun out. Or mount an external awning shade over the window. Wooden interior shutters may also be a solution. They have louvered slats that you can tilt to control the amount of sunlight you let in.

You could try putting up drapes, not just curtains. Drapes are more opaque and let in little light and heat.
You could also get some screens to cover the window on the outside which are made in such a way as to block a lot of the light and heat from the sun. This could be gotten from place like Lowes or HomeDepot.

I have the same problem. I have the wood faux blinds that did't help so tinted window. That provides a little relief. The thing I found that works the best is one of those outside window coverings that just pulls down. It was a hundred bucks at depot but it is a huge window. Work good also keeps room darker for lazy days

Get window film from Home despot or a Lowes type store. They have different types. Relatively easy to apply. We have done this in several houses and it also protects the fabric and floor from UV RAYS. Finally you need to add shades and curtains to totally block out the light.
