I am not stupid but I do mispell words. I use spell check, but it doesn't always correct the spelling. I asked a question yesterday and I mispelled a word and spell check accepted it so I thought it was right. One very rude person had to point out my mistake. Why do people do this? Don't they know they hurt peoples feelings? Or is that why they do it? I miss spelled troops.

I said I used spell check! Spell check accepted my spelling! Having a slight problem with spelling is not a sign of being stupid! Calling people stupid is down right mean!

because some people have no better answer so they just tear you down for a misspelled word.

Because it is so frustrating reading so many misspelled (one word) words that people assumed you didn't spell check. You have to admit it so many Y/A users don't even have the courtesy to stop using Ebonics and try using the spell check. So, I'm sorry you got your feelings hurt and hope this helps explain your situation.
I find it can be helpful to be corrected. I was corrected on the words a lot. I was spelling it "alot." It's a common mistake.

Well, let's see...

1) We are taxed billions of dollars annually to provide a free public education system so that our citizens don't grow up to be stupid. Your failure to learn how to spell is a waste of MY tax dollars.

2) It's embarrassing when immigrants come here from China and India, and have a better command of the language than our own population.

3) Proper spelling and grammar makes it easier to read (and thus answer) your questions.

4) Since Y!A is a volunteer effort, those of us who have made an effort to learn how to spell and write properly expect the same effort to be made by the other contributors.

5) It's for your own good. The lack of basic grammar school education in our young adult population is both appalling and embarrassing. Many people on Y!A (like myself) are business owners, and we employ young people. If you can't spell or write properly, you will be shut out of jobs. Do you want to flip burgers for the rest of your life?

Because all you have to do is hit spell check. It's an easy step, but when ignored degrades the quality and integrity of the question asked. But that does not excuse the insults that people throw. Some people just feel good when bringing others down.

Because discussing politics brings out the WORST in people. Just take all the answers here with a grain of salt and have fun. Who cares what a bunch of strangers think anyway? If anyone tells you they haven't ever misspelled something, they would be lying. Hang in there and keep your chin up. Your opinion is just as valid as anyone elses, even if your points of view differ.

Because people have nothing better to do with their time than to criticize others. These people also have a low self esteem! Just ignore them!

It's the 'spell police'. They generally have no answers but feel the need to cut people down. They have no life. :)

It is an easy, and accurate, but mean spirited manner, in which to critique a question.

It's poor form, no question.

I'd really like to know why all these thin-skinned people have bothered to hang out in politics, however.

Don't you remember what your grandma said about polite company? It was true. Politics, sex, religion are not areas of discussion where it is appropriate to be so thin-skinned. Have your beliefs, and by all means, stand by them. But don't expect agreement or niceties.
