An OBO study disputes this as false, as most poor households have had almost a tripling of income since passage of welfare reform. One has to give credit to both the Republican congress at the time, as well as President Bill Clinton for signing the legislation, although reluctantly.

Since the poor are not getting poorer, then why do Liberal politicians say they are? Is it simply punishment of the rich, higher taxation, and personal power that drives their inaccurate statements?

Nim, you are saying the cost of living has tripled since the 90s? What are you smoking, dude? As for gasoline prices perhaps you can blame your politicians for the excessive taxation of this commodity. State and Federal govt makes more profit than Oil companies. Or perhaps you can blame them for not letting oil companies drill in ANWR or the gulf. Remember the basics of supply and demand? If Liberal Environmentalists do not allow for domestic supply, and demand stays the same or grows, price increases, true? Perhaps you can also tell Liberal politicians to allow for the building of new refineries as well, as none have been able to be built since the early 70's.
Well so much for your "facts" but then again I didn't have high expectations, I am afraid.

Despite the perception, in real inflation adjusted dollars, we are still paying less per gallon of gas than we did in 1981. (Just a little reality check from your old Uncle Jake.)

I am not getting poorer. I am doing well. Everyone I know is doing well. People don't seem to get the true definition of poverty in America. The census bureau draws an arbitrary line at a specific income level and considers anything below that point to be poverty. When too few family incomes remain below this line, they arbitrarily raise the line to a higher income level and Voila! The number of families living under the poverty line remains constant.

It is not at all unusual for the poor in America to have adequate clothing, adequate shelter, cable TV, air-conditioning and a cell phone. They are also more often than not, overweight. This is a higher standard of living than most middle class people of the world.

o.k. tripled income since welfare reform,

Price of gas sky rocketing,

Cost of housing has Tripled in my area alone since that time,

But hey lets not quote anything that doesn't serve our purpose of blaming anyone but who's currently in charge,

lets not look at the reality of the situation,

lets not take into account anything that is the whole truth,

lets look at the facts from a point of view that just benefits the random stupidity that you want to express,

well that being said,

the poor are still getting poorer, your still delusional, and your facts are still false:

Note,

As far as what Im smoking, well thats a cross breeding blend of a purple haze(4th gen) x whyte rhino, but thats not the point,

Plain and Simple, You cant debate me on this and win,

as a vet returning from desert storm in 1995, I rented a 2bdr apartment for, 475.00 in 2004 after my divorce, I rented the same 2 bdr apartment, for 1255, after checking around, I found that was a common pricing for that size apt. and that if you wanted to pay less it was still about doublewhat the price was in "95" and the quality was worse,

by your thinking, housing costs havent gone up, The cost of gas is all due to taxes, limited refineries, and the rule of supply and demand, (even though oil ccompanies are reporting RECORD profits,)

No. The Liberal invoke class strife to energize their base. No one really thinks most rich are republicans, but the "useful idiots" of our country, who look around and wonder why they aren't driving Hummers and have big screen TVS, start to think they are missing out on the good life.

Ever wonder why TV shows always show Americans as being rich? It is to make the working class feel as if they are losing out. The media is easily in bed with the liberals on this.

A scare tactic used by the democrats to get the vote of the lower income people. They want to give government handouts to make the people think their for the working guy, while increasing the taxes of the middle class to pay for it. I think that's called socialism.

Its strange to think you would actually do any kind of reading when your mind is made up for you by your religious leader and your political philosophy .
I am sure if George Bush came out and said that the Gas crisis is over and the price has adjusted to its proper level for our economy and will remain the same for many years now that you would swallow it .

Do you have a link to this study? I would like to see it. I think they complain because cost of living is going up but who real knows why they complain.

To keep their voter base. If you are told constantly that you deserve more you start to believe it. Before you know it popular culture tells you that you are nothing unless you drive an Escalade. You start to adopt that"poor me" mentality.
