What type of games? Give us some examples.
If you're talking about online client-side launchers.. then you have an issue with either your firewall or sometimes gaming keyboards such as the saiteks and other "human interface" USB hardware can mess with your connection and give you a black screen on startup.
I'd suggest checking the forums on the game in question.. you're guaranteed not to be the only one out there having that problem.

Are you running Vista? That can be a problem with some online games. You could also just try somthing else.
