How do Liberals feel that they couldn't get their surrender date to stick? Also, why do they care if the volunteer troops are only made up of 7% Liberals? Isn't it just their Vietnam strategy at work--tear down the country, blame America first, and use the troops as pawns for their own political gain? Should Liberals worry about their own kids who are sitting home getting high and playing video games like cowards?

This was written by Novak:

"President Bush has won a rare showdown victory over Congress simply because Democrats felt they could not afford the risk of letting a war in progress run out of money. The Democrats' problem is that this demonstrates conclusively that they are all talk on the Iraq War -- a fact that their base will quickly realize. There is no way for Congress to end the war short of cutting off funds, and to cut off funds without the consent of the President is to invite a repeat of exactly the same showdown the Democrats have now already lost. The bottom line is that Democrats have passed on their best chance to end the Iraq War. If they are not willing to take a risk here in a non-election year in order to force Bush to end the war, then they certainly do not have what it takes to cut off war funds in the coming presidential election year. The best they could possibly do is to make some symbolic gesture, such as a rescission of congressional approval for the war -- a recent suggestion of Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) -- or perhaps a non-binding resolution demanding its end. There is another option, but even more undesirable than images of soldiers running out of ammunition in the desert would be a politically suicidal attempt to impeach President Bush during the last year of his term."

You are so cruel.

Not giving the insurgents our withdrawal date is like throwing someone in the middle of the ocean and not telling them how often fishing boats pass by the area. A person in this condition will just end up drowning after a couple desperate days of lonely despair. You are doing the same thing to these brave jihadists who are trying to protect their country from the scourge of democracy.

If you just tell the jihadists when the U.S. troops are leaving, maybe they'll be nicer and stop using IE D's against our troops. However, you are just like the cruel person who dumped someone into the ocean with no words of hope. A withdrawal date will give the jihadists hope. Don't you want them to be happy? It is (partially) their country!

I don't care if my little boy Johnny isn't in the military. I live in a prestigious gated community with some of the cream of the crop Democrats I might add, and we don't even socialize with any military families. I doubt they could afford our property taxes.

Luckily, my boy is probably too old for the military anyway. He just turned 28. He hasn't moved out yet, and if the military knew of his drug use, they'd reject him anyway. We love him all the same, even though you would disparagingly classify him in some cold, harsh antiseptic Conservative terms to describe his mild addiction, and inability to hold a job.

I'm all for ending this silly Iraq war anyway. I think your choice for President (not mine!) is delusional if he thinks that a bunch of people as volatile as that can handle democracy. Besides, we have more important things to attend to, such as Global Warming. I feel confident that both Michael Moore and Barbra Streisand will accept our invitation to our global warming fund raiser. All the best Democratic (earth friendly) families will be in attendance.

I support the war effort, and think the Democrats were dead wrong too. But again I say DON'T GLOAT. It does not help the troops, which is my only concern.

And also, by the Democrats giving Bush what he wants, they are basically giving him all the responsibility for the oucome in Iraq. I hope we suceed, I want very badly for us to succeed, and I believe the consequences of failure are high. But success is not guaranteed. Be ready for gloating from others that "Bush got everything he wanted and still blew it," coming at any moment.

Sorry to preach - just some friendly advice.

I feel like the President thinks politics are the most important thing in the world, that's how I feel. I also feel like the only people in Washington working to ensure that politics is set aside in favor of funding the troops are the DEMOCRATS.

Surender date? Really. Well, even if it damages the gung-ho image of America, I think that saving the lives of our troops is something that should be high on our priorities. But if your oil for blood ideals is what you wish to keep strong, let it be. We'll just see what our next president will be able to do with Madam speaker Pelosi at the reigns.

What branch of the armed forces are you in? To make a blanket statement such as yours only shows what sheep you people are. And by the way, my children are grown, up-standing citizens and so are my grand children. They are also liberals.

Better than using the troops for profit gains. Did anyone say Halliburton?
