No sex before marriage is not illegal in India, but definitely prostitution is unlawful act & punishable offence. In prostitution the sex is being done on consideration of money or any valuable property whereas sex between two couples whether married or unmarried is not for any such consideration. When there is commercialization of sex it amounts to prostitution, whether any one indulges in selling it or buying it or arranging it is concerned. As far as how law will judge whether any one indulge in sex for prostitution or just for mutual enjoyment depends on only this issue whether any payment is involved in this activity or not. More over the security department i.e. police who is raiding the place where such sex activities take place know about the prostitutes because of their previous criminal records, whereas any couple who is found for the first time involved indulging in such activity are usually left with a warning to avoid such activity in future. So never visit places where such activities take place in commercial way. What are these places ? Anyones guess.

Yes, sex before marriage is illegal in India, just like in USA and other countries. Most countries have co-habitation laws, which prohibits sexual relationship between people without marriage licence. Legally marriage licence is nothing but a recorded contract under the matrimonial law between two people. India is no different in this matter. But sex without marriage licence is difficult to enforce, and hardly enforced, when there is a complain filled by some one, then it is the duty of the local authorities to get process going but at best it is a difficult thing to prove. Prostitution is legal in some parts of India, just like in USA and in other countries. Some countries or localities within the country, have laws that govern "Licenced Prostitution" and adult entertainment activities. This then becomes well recognised profession under the law and the people holding the licence are required to follow the laws, to its last latter. As you know that prostitution is the one of the oldest profession in the world and only recently it is illegal in lots of locations all over the world.

Pre-marital sex isn't illegal in India. If a woman is discovered having pre-marital sex, the law doesn't bother with it. I'm sure you know what prostitution is. So don't get yourself unnecessarily jumbled up with irrelevant thoughts.

Ive not done any research on this but this is what i know from common sense:
of course not! and as long as both sides do it willingly, i think it should be fine. and if you r not paid for it, how can it be prostitution! but I'm not too sure, you never know what Indian politicians can come up with.....:)
legal matters aside, what i do know for sure is that sex before marriage is an important decision that has to be taken once and for all when youre thinking straight and not in the heat of the moment. thats what i learnt from the seven habits of highly effective teenagers by sean covey.

no it is not illegal in india.you know the cultural boundrries,it is illegal at cultural level.me also think that one should respect the values of his/ her culture.india is very open on every matter.indian laws are also very flexible. goddess of law has a tight black strip on her eyes. under this situation every thing is possible any where in this world.this is in our hands till what limits we disobey the laws.one should obey the laws of that place where he/ she lives.
