Israel has been trying since they were created. The Arab nations as a group who have tried to erase Israel from the map are the root cause of the problem. Once they decide that Israel is entitled to recognition and follow up on the decision with the elimination of the terrorists who continually attack Israel, a peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue will follow.

It's a nice idea, but just not true. Israel did take the initiative and gave back the Gaza strip free of charge. Israel asked for literally nothing back. And yet, apparently you still don't say that the Israeli government is trying. Interesting how that works. The current outcome of Israel's actions are the election of Hamas and consequently the end of renewed peace talks and rocket rain. I'd also like to point out that travel and security restrictions were once a lot more lenient. Unfortunately the system was abused and used for terror. Nowadays Israel needs to take a stronger stance on security. I don't think the answer to this issue is to hand out flowers.

Yes, most Israelis want a peaceful solution to the current impasse even if they have to give back a lot more territory. They do not agree with everything their government does - like the invasion of Lebanon and would be willing to gamble on an initiative but cannot move while rockets land in Southern Israel. I think the EU needs to consider a Nato or UN mission in Gaza to reign in the militants and rebuild the economy/infrastructure.

Hi Ali
The question is too complex for short answers. There has been too much history, too many wicked events by people from both sides and too much desire for revenge by too many people, but if people could be persuaded to arrange an armistice on a certain day at a certain time and begin to collaborate, the world would be a happier place not only in the Middle east but worldwide.
Imagine Israel used its vast wealth to set up schools and universities in Palestine and Lebanon. Imagine all those racist, discriminatory and stupid laws like those ordering the demolition of Palestinian homes in Israel were torn up and a rebuilding project started. Imagine opening Palestine's industries to world markets. Imagine, Israel offering Palestine and Lebanon free defence and police training. Imagine the results! Collaboration and investment in building each other up is the key and the Peace dividend is for both peoples to have the opportunities to achieve their human aspirations.
But it will not happen. Why not? because the Isrealis would stop receiving American aid (currently around $20,000 a year for every Israeli man, woman and child) and the perverted view of Jihad preached by various Muslim groups. Is Jihad not really about a personal, internal struggle for self-purification, not about murder? The prophet himself (PBUH) always accepted peace terms offered to him and then improved upon them through negotiation. He never taught anyone indiscriminate killing. But, as I said, it has been going on too long and the catalogue of wickedness and the desire for vengeance by both parties will result only in more bloodshed.

I am neither a Jew or an Arab so my point of view is coloured by the media I have access to.
It seems to me that ( and I know this is not a sudden brilliant idea formed by me alone ) religion is at the heart of all the troubles not just in Israel/Palestine but world wide.
It also seems to me that there is no end in sight until Israel is recognised as a sovereign nation by all the worlds countries and their borders are sorted out once and for all

well, from a palestinian point of view, they took the best land, the west coast of palestine and left us with left overs when we were there first. they either leave or we share the WHOLE LAND, they become palestinian citizens. i would want anything to end the violence, but i just wish i could go visit Yaffa and Haifa and 3aka and see the beautiful meditteranean sea without being harrased and gundowned by soldiers.

There is no 'occupation of Palestine' by anyone other than Arabs. There will be peace once they stop libelling us by claiming that we 'stole' their land.
That land was given to us by G-d for eternity.
We have nothing against living in peace with Arabs, but they have to realise that Palestine, from the Med to the Euphrates, is *Jewish* land, now and until the end of time.

If the Arabs want yet another state, Israel should give it to them, close the border, and throw away the key.
What other nation is supposed to give free access to its enemies after independence.

God himself gave Israel the land. Only when they turned their back to him did he let others remove them from the land. But he said they will return and they have. Bottom line it is Israel land to do what they want with it.
