Ok I took my daughter to her 9 month well baby check up. She weighed 26 1/2 lbs and was 29 in. At first my doctor said that she was the right weight for her height but than in the next breath it seemed like she said that she was slightly over weight but than before we left she said she wasn't concerned because she will be going through a growth spurt soon and start being more mobile and that the weight will come off. So what gives, is my baby fat or should I know worry about it? Thank you for any insight on this. (My daughter has always been in the 95th percentile for height and weight since she was 2wks old, my husband is 6'5 280lbs and I am 5'5 225lbs)

She is just fine. Yes, she is in the 90th percentile for growth but she is pretty proportional for her height and weight. My son at his 9 month was little over 23 lbs and 29.75 inches long. And the dr is right that once she starts getting mobile her weight gain will taper off some. I wouldn't worry about it, she sounds very healthy.

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about. What I'd be more concerned about is getting yourself and your husband on a healthier eating plan, so that you're modeling good eating habits for your daughter for the future. Don't mean any offense, but you both need to lose some weight (I'm 6' 5" 215 lbs., and I know I'm right at the cusp of starting to be overweight for my height...)

My niece was like that too and you have absolutely nothing to worry about. You and your husband are big, so your child is big. I've always thought chunky babies are healthier babies, not to mention cuter! Also, look at it this way, god forbid she has a stomach bug or anything, ( both of mine got good ones before the age of 1) any extra weight is good, because when those kind of things hit a baby, they tend to lose weight quick. You've got a beautiful, healthy baby.

Ever since I've had a baby, more and more I'm beginning to think that docs don't have to have a M.d. or P.h.D. at all. Most of them just seem to have a BS degree---that is they have a talent for baffling us with bullsh!t. I can't ever seem to get a straight answer from any of her pediatricians. They do that to me all the time...right down 95% percentile and then scold me for this that or the other when it comes to feeding. MY CHILD IS BREASTFED! breastfed baby's rarely over eat!
I take what they say into account and apply it to my own research and my own instincts as a mother as to what is right for my child.

All babies will slim down a bit when they start walking..please dont worry about it at this age! She sounds very tall...she will need that extra fat!
When shes 5...then you can worry that her 'baby fat' is off or not....
