It's all in the genetics. It depends on what genes the particular fertilized egg & sperm were carrying. Think of it this way..... You take brown paint & mix white paint & bingo- you get tan or light brown. If your child is newborn, then it's color may change. A lot of black babies are lighter skinned when first born & then darken up. I've seen some mixed babies be really white but with blonde afros. I've also seen some so dark that you can't really tell they're mixed. It all depends on you & you wife's genetic mixture. Even children you have after this may have varying shades of color & attributes so it's possible that none of them may look alike.

Were you looking for grey or checkerboard? Come on. Haven't you seen Jordin Sparks, Rick Fox or Halle Berry or Dave Justice, Derek Jeter, Barack Obama, Thandie Newton, Doug Christie, Alicia Keys, Mya, Jason Kidd, Roy (Campy) Campanella, The Rock, Sade, Lenny Kravitz or Vin Diesel?
I could give you more examples if you'd like.
These folks are "mixed," as you say -- black and white -- and you will see their colorings are all various shades of light brown.
What is called "black" and "white" are really misnomers, as you know, since you are not the color of a tuxedo and your wife is not the color of a blank piece of paper.
I can only guess the whole question is a joke.

This can't be a serious question. First of all, the child is not mixed, he/she is biracial. Anyway, you answered your own question - the child is light brown because you are black and your wife is white; it's usually what happens when any race produces a child with a black person.

Your child is mixed. Her coloring has nothing to do with it at all. Mixed children come in all shadings, from really dark to really light. Usually it depends on which parent has the dominant genes in that particular pairing. I'm mixed, my mother is white and my father is black and I'm a beautiful honey brown. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

well, here is the best way i can think to explain this to you. take some dark brown paint that is about your skin colour, and take some white paint, that is about your wife's skin colour. now mix the paints together and see what colour you come up with. it will be the colour of yor baby. you and your wife came together (sex=mixing paint) and created a beautifully coloured baby. i hope this helps!

It depends on your shade. If you are light and your wife is white then your child may come out looking white, but if your shade is dark then you child may be a shade of brown. There is no way of saying for sure though.
