Hello,

(ANS) I found Norton Anti Virus was NOT as good product as Symantec made claims for. For one thing I found it gobbled a large amount of my systems resources (has whats termed a large foot print) thus slowing down may computer which I only found out when I removed it. The difference was frankly quite alarming.

** Norton (Symantec) consistently increased the cost of the yearly update service & finally the straw that broke the camels back in my case was when they wanted to charge me an extra £12 because I wanted to pay by debit card not credit card. I think someone was taking the mikki frankly!! So I removed the package.

**I HIGHLY recommend FREE AVG Anti Virus by Grisoft. This program is every bit as good, if NOT better than Norton. It also has a smaller foot print, its 100% free for personal use & you get daily free updates. It has all the same & more functionality than Norton, AVG free has saved my machine many times over because the resident shield is superb.

FREE AVG anti virus 10 out of 10 you wont find many better anti virus programs.

In the number of days stated you need to buy another subscription. You can buy a disc from PC World or Staples or similar. They are cheaper on Amazon I am told. You can renew on line by clicking the link but there are no bargains in this way. Whatever you do do not renew until the day before it runs out. If you do then the new subscription will start from that date and you loose the remaining days on the old one.
Better still dump Norton and use Bullguard. You can find it on line and they have a direct help service on e mail or on the type and chat system. Their service is exceptional. Have you ever tried to contact Norton? It is just about impossible.

something does not make experience. If Norton has detected viruses then why does not it do away with them? Your Norton ought to do away with detected viruses regardlesss of no remember in the adventure that your subscription has expired. in case you do ascertain to renew your subscription then Norton will replace your virus definition record. How do you comprehend that your laptop has viruses. Is a non-Norton application telling you? if this is so that then you ought to have a trojan (a faux anti-undercover agent ware application) on your device.

After you subscription expires, you will be no longer protected. To keep your computer safe you need an anti-virus program. So, you can buy one or download one for free. In most cases, free ones are as good as paid ones. So here you have a list with some from where you can choose:

You have several options.

1)You can renew it online with Norton (depending on which version you are using)
2)Uninstall it after it expires and buy a more recent version
3)Uninstall it after it expires and install a free A/V product such as AVG or Avast

AVG AntiVirus

Avast Home Antivirus

(Note: Only use one anti-virus product as running more than one can cause conflicts thus rendering each ineffective. Same goes for firewalls)

Norton's honestly the worst anti virus program I've ever used... I'd recommend NOT upgrading, and going for a free anti virus such as AVG, and others. Norton did absolutely nothing for me.

You could just download a subscription from Norton on the net. Simple as that. Its 39.99. For 70 you can get system works which keeps your computer clean automatically which is great for people who don't know much about computers.

But by all means renew it. Sure there are some free ones but...... you get what you pay for.

Let it run out and install AVG anti virus it is FREE and very good (type AVG in your Yahoo search engine and it will show you the download site) also download Lavasoft's AdAware program that should secure your computer as long as you keep them up to date, before you open these programs uninstall your Norton programs.

As a pc tech i would agree with Ivan R. Norton is a horrible product and uses way to many resources (it actually slows your system down).

AVG and Avast are both free and offer good protection however no program is 100%...not to mention your system will only be as safe as your internet/e-mail habbits allow.

If you do decide to switch from norton to another product you want to download the norton removal utility @ http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Good luck
