I am 31 wks and ive been on here before asking this and iam now waiting to get some treatment as i have been told i have DSP. For weeks or months i have told the midwifes the pain i have been having and they keep telling me its just the baby and the pressure below. Iam upset as i could of been treated ages ago and feel let down. Iam having alot of trouble with this pregnancey and i do come on here often now as i dont know who i can talk too as the midwifes are SORRY to say but crap! and i dont trust them any more. Have you have this DSP? What did they do? how did the birth go? Does it go?

Hey, a friend of mine had the same bother with her last baby. She didn't have any trouble through the actual birth and it wasn't until around a week afterwards that it was fully discovered. Unfortunately her pubic bone actually broke as she didn't take it easy after the birth...she was given the option of surgery but didn't take them up on it. She did receive some steroid injections into the pubic bone area and they seemed to help. Its now been a few years since she gave birth and she still gets pain if she over does stuff but in general its fine and there is no serious lasting effects.
Sorry I cant be more specific...maybe try the Internet or ask your GP about it....I know that her GP and midwife both failed to recognise it!

Hi - Yes have had it with my last one. The reason the midwife's arent doing anything about it is there isnt really anything other than laying down with your feet up that you can do. They are correct when they tell you that it is pressure on your pelvis. Basically the weight of your baby is pushing down on the nerve endings and it hurst like hell. Mine went when he fully engaged, I dont mean the bit when the midwifes say they head is 'engaged' but the bit when the baby physicaly moves his head into the birth canal and you start walking like a cowboy! At that point the weight is no longer resting in one place and the pain goes away. For some people that doesnt happen until birth as the head never properly engages. Either way once you give birth the pain is gone. They may offer you some physio but other than that its just a case or resting and walking around as little as possible. Also try wearing a support belt to lift the weight away, altough at 31 weeks its probably too late for that now. Its horrid but it all worth it - dont be too down on the midwife's they can be a bit - seen it all before - but well, they have. When it comes to giving birth you will think they are the best people on earth!

yes i know what you are going through i had it with both my pregnancies my first started about 24 weeks and my second beleive it or not started when i was only 15 weeks and the pain was unbeleivable i went for physio and they also gave me a support belt which wasnt any use it actually made it feel worse after that they did nothing my first baby was 5 weeks early nothing to do with DSP which was a natural birth which went fine my second was a c section because my daughter was double breech and after both the pain vanished so really there isnt really anything they can do but hopefully you are like most women (midwife told me) and it will go after your baby is born, good luck when your baby arrives and im sure youll think all the pain was worth it after you hold your baby for the first time,GOOD LUCK.

Hi, I am 33wks pregnant and positive I have the same thing. I have red up on it on the net and have all the symptoms but the Dr's refuse to acknowledge it. I am in so much pain all the time and they keep telling me its just my ligaments stretching. My mum crushed her pelvis in an accident and the Dr's did not know for 16 months so now she has pubic synfycis dysfunction and she is on strong pain relief constantly and going in for her 2nd surgery in 6 wks time. I'm sorry I have not answered your question as such but I defiantly know how you are feeling. If you have any info or find out more about it will you let me know? I am sorry I don't mean to Be rude but your the first person other then my mum I know of having this.
my Email is jaydemyk@gmail.com
Good luck with ever thing and I wish you the best with the rest of your pregnancy and labour.

get to a physical therapist that specializes in womens's issues! this started for me at 12 weeks with my 2nd pregnancy. i didn't get treatment until 20 weeks, and within a month i was painfree. here are the main recommendations: do NOT move your legs apart or away from each other or in counter=movement. you want to keep your pelvis as stable as possible (not wide leg stretches, no walking, no cardio, no swimming/kicking legs, etc). when you feel the pain, ice your pubic bone. basically this cartilage between the pelvis is loosening and unstabilizes your pelvis, which inflames it and causes MAJOR pain. yes my midwives had NO idea how to help me!!! i was very lucky to get good treatment. i am 35 weeks and even the baby has dropped and i feel hardly any pain down there. yay!

I have just seen this after answering another question about amiotic fluid loss. You poor thing cos i remember it with my last pregnancy it was around 20 weeks and the pain was awful.I was referred to the outpatient physio dept and they were very good i was fitted with a maternity belt and was measured thruout the pregnancy it was 3 straps which velcroed together to give you support, i won't be having any more babys cos it gets worse in each pregnancy, it did go after i gave birth ,
just be very careful especially getting out of cars good luck xx
