Im assuming u have previously breast fed ur baby otherwise u would have not been lactating, is this correct? Once u stop breastfeeding ur baby ur lactation will diminish pretty quickly. Avoid as much as possible stimulating the nipples, u may need to express a little to make u feel comfortable but try and keep this to a minumum as possible. Over the course of a few days u should notice a massive difference.`

Assuming that you aren't breastfeeding or stimulating your nipples at all. It usually only takes 2 weeks but can take up to 8. Cabbage leaves work wonders! not only for the swelling but they will also help dry up milk. Just take a couple of leaves kind of crumble them to get the juices flowing and stick them in your bra.
I had to do this in the beginning because I became engorged. They told me to only do it for 1 hour and within that hour the engorgement went away. I took out the leaves, but didn't switch out my bra right away, my milk production suddenly went down drastically. It was because the cups still had some of the cabbage leaf juice on it. Switched bras and the production started back up again with the help of my nursing baby.

If your not nursing it could take a while. Try to keep your breasts out of any stimulation even the shower so they will dry up faster. I learned a little trick when I had my son in October. I put Cabbage leaves in my bra and mine was dried up in about a week. A little late start for you but I suggest you try it, It worked for my sister too!

Beleive it or not,for as long as you allow your child to feed from you your body will produce milk. The play group that i attended with my daughter there was a woman there who was still breast feeding her little one at 4years old.To some this may be wrong but some mothers do feed for a long time.I also watched this wierd programme about a mother who was feeding her daughters at 7 and 8 and i think as a treat she allowed them to do even longer. Some people have different and mixed views,i did it until my babys were 5 months.I also feel you need to allow yourself time out,so as long as they have been given the anti bodies that they need at the beginning that should be ok.

I assume you're not nursing?
Wrap your chest tightly in a large ace bandage and place ice on your chest several times a day. This will dry up your milk supply in a few days. Oh, also put large cabbage leaves between your breast and the ace bandage. Sounds silly but it works.

If your nipples are stimulated in any way then it will take a while. If you are not interested in breast feeding than you should wear a sports bra that is extra tight to discourage lacatation. When you are in the shower, turn away from the spray. Try to hold your baby away from your chest. Good luck.

If you did not breastfeed and do not intend to then I have heard that casteroil is good for drying up the milk. Also, Evening Primrose is excellent for rebalancing the hormones, which should stop the milk.

Every person is different. I always breast fed my kids, and gradually stopped (except one, suddenly had to stop, due to her passing)
Bind yourself tightly, do not stimulate your breast at all, It may take 6 or more weeks to completely dry up. I also heard cabbage leaves worked, but never did try it
It is not to late to decide to breast feed.
