Here are the world's five largest fresh water lakes, in order:

1. Superior (Canada-US) 82,000 sq km
2. Victoria (Tanzania-Kenya-Uganda) 69,000 sq km
3. Huron (Canada-US) 59,000 sq km
4. Michigan (US) 58,000 sq km
5. Tanganyika (Tanzania-Congo) 32,000 sq km

Of course there are the Great Lakes, Great Bear lake and slave lake in Canada, Great Salt Lake, Lake winnipeg, the caspian sea (which is actually a lake), Lake Chad and Lake Victoria in Africa to name a few of the largest lakes in the world. Interesting fact--20% of the worlds fresh water is found in the Great Lakes. Austrailia does not have a major lake. There are only 2 in South America and 2 in Asia.
