I assume you meant

4(x+1)-2(x-1) < 3-x
4x + 4 - 2x + 2 < 3 - x
2x + 6 < 3 - x
3x + 6 < 3
3x < -3
x < -1

Assuming the = should be a +

4(x+1) - 2(x-1) < 3 - x
4x + 4 -2x + 2 < 3 - x
2x + 6 < 3 - x
3x < -3
x < -1

if you mean

4(x-1)-2(x-1)<3-x

4x -4 -2x + 2 < 3-x

2x -2 < 3-x

3x < 5

x < 5/3
