I had someone peruse my photography website the other day, and they told me that I needed more flash animations, more bells and whistles, and more polished transitions. Now, I did my website all by myself. I wrote the HTML longhand with VERY LITTLE help from a site builder program. It took me forever to complete, so maybe that is why I am so reluctant to change anything.
I was hoping the YA folks could have a look at my site, and offer some tips and advice on how to make it better. Yes, there is an email link on my site. Yes, if you spam me, I will block you.
Here is the link: http://www.griswells.com
I'll update this as suggestions come in. Thanks!

Simplicity, functionality and pleasing appearance are key considerations. Your site achieves all of these. You have done a very nice job.
One addition that might be helpful is to expand your "Weddings" and "Family" pages to include more examples and information, similar to the way you have done the "Weddings Defined" page.
Overall, I find your site much more pleasing than some that are bloated with a lot of distracting "extras."

I like your website. You have done a great job in the speed of page loading! That is something amazingly few (too few!) web page authors consider!
The only suggestions I can imagine are:
- Update the page as often as you can (maybe with new weddings if your clients will consent?)...it *might* keep repeat customers more interested?
- Does the border across the top sort of imply a movie rather than stills?
- Perhaps place navigation buttons (or *at least* a home-page button) at the *top( of each page. In the case of multiple buttons, either omit the button for the current page or have the current page's button show up in a unique color.
- ...if you want to have fun, you could make photos in the top-of-page banner which are "clickable" so's they lead to the enlargements on other pages!
But mine are optional suggestions. You sound like good folk. I appreciate that!

you have a excellent site , it gets across the purpose of what the site is meant to bring...you could add those bells and whistles if you like, as people seem attracted to fancy stuff these days but id work with what you've got ,just add a few extras like a bit of fancy music to your site to give it that family spirit...if it was my site id also do away with the white background for something darker..
darker pages are more easyier on the eyes if you have a dodgy screen like me; just a thing like this you'd be surprised how it might keep a customer longer at your site..also where it has weddings ,family ect you could replace those links to spinning gif links instead there are some great tools on the net that create all the 3d spinning writing for you, all you do is add it to your site page serif 3dplus 3.0 and above is one that comes to mind...and you could also make the film role up top turn from one picture to the next..
yeah so basicly just spruse it up a little with what you already have is my suggestion,it saves rewritting from scratch:) nice photos by the way ...

From my own experience in web design and programming, I have few suggestions.
1. Provide more helpful information (ex. tips for bride-to-be)
Even people woo about the new flash technology; most of the time, viewers actually ignore it according to the research. That is why text ads is much more popular than graphic ads.
Usability and useful information you can provide on your website will make your business stand out in front of other competitors. For example, how to communicate with the photographer in order to get the best result of my photos? Things to do for outdoor photo. How to prepare for children's photo shoot?
2. Two way communication
The main difference between old website (few years back then) and new website is that audience expect two way communication. With so many free widgets and web program on the Internet to use, you can easily achieve this without much effort. For example, blog your service and knowledge of photography, and people can respond you by giving comments.
In short, I like the graphic design of your website. Good luck.

I loved your website. I don't know very much about that type of thing, but the photographs are beautiful....and isn't that the point?
I am amazed at the number of interesting things people can do with computers in general, and don't even understand the particulars of what others suggested, so all I can say is: as a layperson I give you an A+.

Don't let one person enfluence what you think about your web site, otherwise you will end up spending hours changing it and it will be pretty much the same. Be proud of what you created. Don't let your web creation skills fall behind though. If you learn something new, do your best to implement it onto your site.

no offence my friend but that is really bad :)
remove your BG image on the front page and just use bg colour instead. Your buttons also look very outdated
You can redesign it quite easily and make it look better in no time
all the best

Don't listen. I bet the sites they build are gaudy and obtrusive. Yours is simple, eye-catching and effective. Stay with it.
