well, i'm italian and i'm milan's supporter since 21st july 1991 (my birthdate)...i don't wanna say anything about the yesterday final..it wasnt a good match, though i think milan deserved more than liverpool...
what i'm asking is, what do you think about paolo maldini abroad? does he deserve the "golden ball"(dunno if you call it this way...in italian it's "pallone d'oro")? at least as price for his career...he's such a great player and most of all a leader..i think without him milan wouldn't be the same...
what d'you all think about?

A-1 im not telling that he should win the golden ball because he won the champions league, im telling that maybe he could win it because of his extraordinary career and because of what he did for football. maybe i'm wrong, but i thought it 2 years ago, and im still sure it would be fair.
and i'm italian, and i can tell you it's "pallone d'oro" and not "ballon d'oro"... -_-

Maldini will go down in history as one of the game's best players. EVER.
He re-invented the position of the overlapping fullback, like Beckenbauer did with the "old" libero position.
But he will not win the Pallone D'oro. I already heard talk about Kaka` being in the running. These awards are not that great anyway, in my opinion. They just reflect some journalists views from a magazine, or the uptight guys at FIFA. It's a "popularity" contest. It's nice to win something like that, but I think Maldini (or any other player) would rather win all the scudetti and CL finals he has won with his club,
than win a popularity contest.
Paolo has won so much and he's still great at 38.
ciao!

I am a fan of AC Milan first and foremost.

I am also a great fan of Paolo Maldini. I've seen the man play great soccer since Gullit-Rijkaard-Van Basten era and I cant be so proud of him more.

He won every single achievements that any soccer player ever dream of, except the world cup obviously, years ago.
A great achievement awards should be honor to him for his talents, skills, leadership, sportmanship etc.

Well afterall, he is a "Living Legend" and still creating legend in soccer arena.

Anyway, the awards should be given to uprising soccer player which can bringst out great talents and skills throughout the next generation of soccer star. Like what Paolo Maldini did in this soccer industry.

Maldini for Golden Ball? Umm... 5-10 years ago, maybe yes... but not now. He can't fight his ageing body, though he's still one of the best defender in the world. Anyway, I agree that we should reward him for his excellent loyalty to Milan & his contribution to Italy & to football. Special award perhaps is more suitable for him. The criteria for Golden Ball are capability, performance, and contribution for team. Don't mess up performance with loyalty.

Btw, it's Ballon d'Oro, not Pallone d'Oro....

I think Maldini is a living legend. When I think of Milan the first player that comes to my head is Maldini. Love him.
But I think that Kaka deserves the golden ball. He is a great player and the best in the world.

FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!!!

Maldini is a legend and he gave it all to Milan.
Nevertheless, The golden ball is about rewarding the best player of the year, that's why Kaka is really the player that deserves it.

I think it's a great achievement to still be at the centre of the Milan team at 39 years of age and he's undoubtedly one of the greats of all time. But he's not been the most sensational player in Europe by any means. I think it has Kaka's name on it this year.

Maldini was a great player and will always be remembered as one of the best , he definitely does deserve some kind of reward if not for his achievements as a great player but for being the most loyal player of all time!!

Maldini is a great leader and a great example of sportsmanship however, it is time for him to hang up his soccer shoes-maybe play a different role for the club-it's time to give some young guys a shot at it
he will always be remembered as being a great player

Stop talking ****. He deserves a golden ball because he won the champions league final at 38? That would be an absolute joke. Just like when cannavaro got world player of the year because he won the world cup. These awards sre stupid. Maldini will only be remembered because his fitness never left him.
