They're playing in the Hall of Fame Game, which is an extra preseason game.

This happened to me a few years back. The first game is the Hall of Fame game, played between two teams with a player entering the Hall this year. Then you have the 4 normal preseason games.

I'm a Saints fan as well and I'm outraged. We play the Stealers in the Hall of Fame Game August 5. I hate the fact that the NFL Preseason is a quarter of a season (4 games). The preseason should be two games. If you haven't figured out who can play in two preseason games and all those mini camps and training camps, then you're never going to figure it out. It puts the Saints at risk for injuries. My suggestion to Payton is to only play your starters for the first series. Some guys you know are gonna start regardless (Brees, McAllister, Colston, Will Smith, etc.) so there's no need to risk them getting hurt. Preseason is nothing but a long drawn out job interview for the players who aren't guaranteed a roster spot. Let them have at it for the rest of the first quarter and last three quarters.

You either just started watching football or you must not really care unless it's your team. Some team gets an extra preseason game every year. It's not just the Hall of Fame game either, a couple of years ago I remember the Colts played the Falcons in Japan. I'm not sure how they pick them, probably some random thing.

Cheers.

They don't count the Hall of Fame game against the 4 games. In the case of the Steelers it is in part because they have a new coach so they are getting the extra game. Not totally sure why the Saints were picked, guess to bring in the fans basically.
