Is 'skeletal ghost ', 'final brambles' or 'utter mess' a metaphor?

I need help with english lit. and I still can't get what a metaphor is..

I don't think so. Sorry. A metaphor would be something like: A head bursting with knowledge, a glaring error. A metaphor is a way expressing something by using words not normally associated with it. A splitting headache Raining cats & dogs.
