On March 16, 1968 the angry and frustrated men of Charlie Company, 11th Brigade, Americal Division entered the Vietnamese village of My Lai. "This is what you've been waiting for -- search and destroy -- and you've got it," said their superior officers. A short time later the killing began. When news of the atrocities surfaced, it sent shockwaves through the U.S. political establishment, the military's chain of command, and an already divided American public.

It was a massacre of mostly women and children in a small vietnamese villiage by american soldiers in 1969. It was covered up until 1971 and when exposed to the public it created a lot of outrage. You can read more extensively on wiki.

It was an unprompted attack on a village of Vietnamese, in Vietnam, mostly women and children. They were all killed savagely. It was led by a Lieutenant Calley, and he and a few others were arrested for this. Lieutenant Calley was prosecuted, and I don't know about the others. It is the type of thing which happens in Africa now.
