I wouldn't so much worry about what people think. However, velvet is considered more of a cold-weather fabric and I don't think it would be very comfortable this time of year.

No one is going to think you are weird, velvet is always a great choice for formal events. If you wore a wonder woman outfit or chicken costume now that would be weird. I wore velvet to both my junior and senior prom. Not only that but I have velvet clothes that I wear during the summer also. It sounds like a fabulous dress you are going to look great in it!

If you feel good in it and like the way you look I think you can wear it.
Yes it is warmer outside but sometimes that means its FREEZING inside someplaces I go.
Now lets say money isn't something you need to worry about....then its great excuse for a new dress! and shoes and... you get the picture.
Have fun at your prom!

i could choose for a gown thats above my knees yet no longer that short. and that's open from the suited yet u could be protecting it with a scarf that is composed of the gown. and that i could deliver its shade as easy blue or easy crimson. i could purchase the shoes white or a similar shade as a results of fact the gown. the hair could be curled and 0.5 down and a few up. stunning no longer that dark makeup that fits with the gown. and rings that fits with the gown.

Yes, unfortunately.
You are totally right welvet gives you an elegant view but not in summer.
It's uncomfortable and weird. You should prefer flitting textiles like silk or satin.
Here a few alternatives:

uhh..it sounds elegant but truth be told, it might seem weird because its summer, but if you think you can handle it and it wouldn't be too hot then go for it

i feel like that's a more wintery color/material. i'd go with a colorful silk.
but if you can pull it off go for it.
