Dickens for social realism and relevance in his day, and perhaps the only writer on a par with Shakespeare for descriptive genius .
Shakespeare for all other considerations- he gave more words and phrases to the English language than any other source before or since. His understanding of language, poetry, dramatic devices and human psychology defined the English language for centuries, and his influence is still felt throughout art and literature. He was THE giant!
Burns was great too, but I'm not sure he deserves to be in this list.

Burns cannot compare with the mastery of language of Shakespeare or the descriptive genius of Dickens. On the basis that Shakespeare has given more to the language than any other writer, it has to be the Bard who gets my vote.

Difficult to choose between Shakespear and dickens, but I would say Shakespear has the most wit but I still really love Dickens.... I can't choose.

If you're asking who I think the best writer is then for me it has to be William Shakespear. Though to be fair, I have no idea who Robbie Burns is.

Just asking what?? Which one is our favorite?? For me it is Dickens because I like best the genre he used for his writing. Plus, Dickens was a social reformer, and I always enjoy his attacks on the establishment in England at the time he wrote.

Chow!!
