But why are some kids allowed to have chocolate cake but not ice cream cake? You would think the sugar content would be about the same, wouldn't it?

A few of the moms that are bringing kids to my daughter's party today said they didn't like their kids to have ice cream, so I'm baking a smaller extra cake so they can at least have something, but what's the difference?

The only thing I can think of is a dairy allergy of some sort. Either lactose intolerance or just a simple dairy allergy. Otherwise there's no other reason. Cake ans ice cream are birthday staples!! I think it would have been the right thing to do for them to have told you the reason.
Have a happy party! ;o)

I agree with the thoughts of the others... lactose intolerance.

My daughter's teacher sent home a note saying what day I could bring in a treat for her birthday... it included directions to not have anything containing milk products or tree nuts. BUT if kids are showing up for a party, it is kinda rude to tell you that you have to fix something else for their kid. I could possibly see mentioning something when they rsvp'd but even still... it's not like you are feeding them this everyday. Let the kids have some ice cream cake.

wow you are a pushover! lol
i'd have been like, that's fine, you tell your kid that you're too mean to let them have cake/ice cream with the rest of the kids.
These are the kids that end up 300 lbs overweight becuz they've been deprived for so long as soon as they are out of their parents site they start shoveling in everything.

The only acceptable excuse would be if their child was lactose intolerant.

You have to be careful today because there are some many allergy's. Nuts, celiacs (not to sure how to spell it), lactose intolerant etc. You would have to make like 10 cakes to suit everyone.

I am thinking if they were lactose intolerant it would have made more sense to tell you. Not just say "they can't have it"
