but you cant get fools out to vote in election about the future of this nation. I think it's a total statement on how dumb this nation is....sickening.

Well, there were about 120 million votes cast in the last Presidential election.

The 74 million number is also misleading since people can vote as many times as they want.

Of course, many Democrats do that too, but that's a different issue.

I said the same thing when I heard that figure but in discussing it and thinking about it, any paricular viewer can vote hundreds and hundreds of times. Wheras in elections, you get one vote. Now, I don't think anyone would disagree that more people should go out and vote during elections but I don't really think a fair comparison can be made. Not to mention that we can't tell how many millions of voters for A.I. were either directly or indirectly from voters under the age of 18. What I do think is a little shameful is that each vote cost .99 cents and if those text messages were donated to a charity than that is almost 74 million dollars that really could have helped. But I am really grateful that A.I. put on that great event that raised so much for a wonderful cause this year:) On voting, I also think that part of it is because they are not deciding the future. You pick an A.I. winner and if they don't turn out to be what you thought they were, there isn't much damage to our future. Also I think some try to watch all the political ongoings to try to make an informed decision and get confused on who is really defending the issues that we believe in. Not that there is any reason that people shouldn't go out and vote because I think a lot of people just don't bother and with that I understand the frustration.

How sad for a once great nation. The news is more interested in what is going on in movies and TV, than reporting illegals invading the country, toll highways being sold to foreign countries, borders and shipping, unsecured. The rate of middle class jobs leaving this country. That our electric bill will be going up 30% by 2010. While gas and oil sales were $156 billion in 2006, prescription drugs sales were $274.9 billion. Our government refuses to secure our borders and we are continually lied to by this administration and congress. Americans are so stupid to vote for a party and not those who would work for the constitution. How many people know that illegals are voting in Texas and only have been found out after they reported for jury duty as legal voters. Now they want to give visas to people in other countries in science and technology because our schools can't turn out enough educated students.
I wonder if they sang the news, if anyone under 40 would pay attention?

I am sorry but on the whole issue of voter turnout I have mixed feelings. I am not bummed when the number of voters is low. To me, it is far better if only people who are paying attention and know what is really at stake and keep themselves educated on top issues vote. If you only pay attention a few days before or have no idea what is going on I prefer you not show up to vote. You will just screw everything up.

Hell, I wish there was a test people had to take before they were allowed to vote. I don't think registering or voting should be more convenient or easier. It is extremely important and should be taken seriously or not done at all.

I bet more than half couldn't tell you where Iraq of Afghanistan are and probably 99% couldn't tell you the difference in a Sunni Muslim or Shi'a Muslim. Even worse, the majority of them would bash the hell out of Bush for Iraq, but would have no understanding of how far US policy on Africa has come under Bush's presidency.....especially ironic considering all the b.s. Africa crap they pushed on that show.

It is a talent show, and people can vote multiple times. It isn't really that big of a deal, even though it promotes mediocre music.

Most of the votes come from teenagers. That's how Sanjaya what's-his-name stayed on there so long.
