"The opposable thumb, the use of eating utensils, the ability to reason and the fact that we adapt our environment to suit ourselves rather than adapt ourselves to suit our environment are the only things that separate us from all the other animals on the planet"

Arguably gorillas and chimpanzees do all of these things, too, just not to the extent that we do. For examples, chimpanzees have been seen using sticks to scoop up and eat ants, or using a reed as a straw. Most apes have been proven capable of reasoning their way out of situations, and have been found to show emotion, including something very similar to love. Everyone remembers Coco the gorilla who learned sign language, as well. Their thumbs are opposable. They build shelters in the wild, have damned streams to collect water, and knock down tall weeds and brush to make clearings in the woods. That's adaptation of the environment to suit themselves.

So, based specifically on how this is worded, I have to disagree. There is something more. Either an addition regarding the extent to which we do these things more than animals, or the elimination of "all" the other animals on the planet is necessary for this to be a true statement. As stated, it would appear it only separates us from MOST of the animals.

This is what I think, chimps have the thumbs and use utensils and some of them may be able to adapt their enviroment but I don't think any animals has the ability to reason
