LOL, these people probably were supposed to do just that, control the parking situation by issuing tickets for parking violations. Another layer of pickpocketers to contend with. Hold on tight to you wallet.

Most traffic wardens are history now, when I used to be one (I left before this happened) they were offering all current TW's a CSO position. CSO's can issue Fixed Penalty Notices for other things too (eg littering/urinating in public) but have no powers of arrest.

Ours do. We have them come into our village centre to meet as many people as possible. They liase with the neighbourhood watch. They do safety talks with different groups including the over 50's club, the various scouting and guiding groups.
The most important thing they do is gather intellegence. We have one bobby who is responsible for 4 villages and we never saw him. Now we see the PCSO's several times a week and people are starting to trust the police again and help them gather information and evidence.

YES. The helped my husband and I when we were being victimised by our violent neighbour (we had called the police to report him beating up his wife more than once).
The regular police refused to do anything until there was blood or broken bones (we only had bruises). The CSOs sorted out a restraining order with powers of arrest and gave us great advice.

In a word no - they are absolutely pointless. Glorified parking wardens - serving the community by simply fining the community. I'd rather my money be spent on youth centres, educational courses and activities to do for young people. Their pay ranges from £18,873 to £21,693 - not bad for a walking ticket machine........

Our CSOs are brilliant. They are highly visible, and anti-social behaviour has plummeted since they opened an office up the road. The other day two druggies were fighting in our street and I just stopped two of the CSOs and they went straight round and sorted it out. No-one's seen the druggies since and I don't expect them back any time soon.

Lets hope not.
But this is a great way to get a new Police force on the cheap. What a waste of money.

Perhaps you should park in the right place then. Parking restrictions are not imposed so authorities can gain cash, although it does feel that way. More like they are imposed for good reasons.

Show their generation that there is something more important to their community other than terrorising others or getting drunk etc.
Excellent role models if you ask me.

They talk in schools, my daughter stayed behind to listen to one as part of her DofE. I think they are also allowed to die in the line of duty, but not allowed to fight back.
