F1 cars are generally not for sale, but very wealthy people can buy body shells from teams. They are not road legal and probably would be a nightmare to drive to the shops in

I have seen former F1 cars and indy cars for sale that are a few years old. They generally cost between about $80K and $150K and do not include engine or transmission. They were being sold by high end collector car dealerships and not directly from the teams. Once a car is obsolete on the track then the teams don't really care that much about it except to keep other teams from learning secrets of technology. The materials/parts to build an F1 car probably only cost around $400K-700K but the teams rack up huge expenses to test, adjust, refine etc the cars. Plus, in F1 there is constant development going on during the season whih costs tons but doesn't require much purchases aside from spares.
Driving on public roads:
First, the cars are not street legal due to no headlights, taillights, license plates, no emissions controls.
Second, F1 tires last only about 100 miles so you would be changing very expensive tires very often. The F1 tires are not DOT approved unless they could handle rain and last more than one trip. If you somehow fitted normal tires the car would never perform at anywhere near the same level because the grip would not be there.
Third, if yoy were able to get an f1 engine you would not be able to get race gas which is specially formulated before each race by the fuel suppliers.
Fourth, since F1 cars rev so high and use long duration cam timing they don't idle well (Drivers use a clutch or take it out gear during pit stops and rev it to a few thousand rpm) without stalling. They are also tuned for all high rpm power and make very little power or torque down low so you have to get lower gearing that would allow for low road speeds for around town and the side streets between your house and a highway.
Fifth, F1 cars have so radiatior fan so they will overheat if they don't keep moving over about 70 mph.
Basically, I would rather have a very fast road car, like a gallardo, saleen S7 or an enzo, than an F1 car for the road. I would like to have an F1 car for some track days once in a while if I had the cash but that is still very limiting.

To give you an idea about how much an F1 car costs, the steering wheel alone costs around $200,000.
On normal roads, an F1 car is crap. You need an entire team of engineers just to help you start the car up. The super-soft tires and suspension struts magnify every bump in the road. Speaking of bumps, if you hit one, probably the low-riding nose cone will be smashed right off.
By the way, an F1 engine lasts for 2 races, or approx. 600 miles. The tires last 100 miles, and the fuel will be completely gone before you know it. Oh, and F1 cars are not road legal.

Each year the teams come up with new cars and somtime yes the old cars are sold or given away. Could you buy a 2007 season model right now no because they are still being used.
I have a car that is lowered now and scrape on things and it sits much higher that a F1 car so there is no way you could ever drive it on a road and let me tell you if you fond a road you could it would not be a car you would want to drive again there.

the price of an old f1 car depends on many factors, mainly the history of the car, for example the ferrari schumacher drove is gonna cost more than the ferrari berrichello drove,
and if that ferrari happened to be one that one a drivers and constructors championship as well as monoco and manza, it will cost significantly more than karthikayens jordan, older modles with less history might be baught for around a million or so but we are talking a 70s modle
as for driving it on the street, it isnt street leagle and never will be, and yes you could out run any cop on the road and could even give the hellicopter a good fight untill you whreked it, witch you will, so if your thinking about it i have a better idea, give me the 20 or so million and make up a good story about how yo baught a car and i'll lie and back you up

There have been a couple F1 cars sell on the Barrett Jackson auction and they went for about $100,000... BUT... the catch was... THERE WERE NO ELECTRONICS so the engine wouldn't run and they were very clear about how they would NOT SELL the electronics... so you can BUY a Formula 1 car but you can NEVER DRIVE IT.

Easily over a million...the GP motorcycles are over a million. You would never be able to get anyone to sell you the vehicle to work on the road, though. They sit about an inch off the ground...
Here is a list of items that sit about an inch off the ground that would absolutely phuck your million dollar car up if you hit them;
Dead animals (the gray fuzzy pile in your lane in front of you)
Rocks
Flashers (aka drunk bumps, lane markers)
Edges of pavement where they meet (like the hop you feel at on a bridge, or when a new lane is being paved beside an old lane)
ANY Debree (ladders, 2X4s, trash bags)
All of these things would make it impossible to drive on the road...even if you could afford it.

1. they are not sold commercially.
2. they are "developed" by primarily car companies and racing teams and can cost millions.
3. they are NOT street legal
Normal people can own them, but that would require buying an older one off of a team, so good luck finding one that they will let go of, and be ready to pull out a TRUCK-LOAD of cash. Remember that it is a sport for Saudi royals and business moguls.
Good luck!
