Assuming you can find a spare piece of flooring that matches...cut out a square patch from the new piece, being careful to match any pattern or texture in the damaged area you will be replacing. Place the patch over the damaged area, and with a sharp lino knife, carefully trace around the patch ,cutting through the damaged flooring section. Lift out the damaged piece, insert the patch (which should be an exact fit, and seal the edges with a MEK bonding kit (or similar product) you can get at a flooring store or most building suppliers.
(Tip) If you must, patches can be found by cutting out a small piece from inside a closet or from under a cabinet (that would be out of sight).
Good Luck

If you have a spare piece of linoleum, cut out a piece slightly larger than the the damaged spot. Put the spare over the damaged spot and line up the patterns. Cut through both the patch and the linoleum with a sharp utility knife. Remove the damaged piece. Clean the underlayment with mineral spirits. Using floor mastic, glue down the patch. Then cover the seams with seam sealer. If you don't have a remnant to start with, buy new floor covering.

well i need more information, how big is the whole?
Did you have some of the vinyl saved?
if so you can cut out a small area around the whole and match the print and size from the saved vinyl and get some vinyl glue / adhesive and glue in the new piece,

If it isn't a hole just a burn mark or something similar, find some nail polish in the same color tone and dab some on it.
