in maths the word 'of' means the same as multiply so what you do is 3/10 * 60. 3/10 is the same as 3 divided by 10 so it is the same as 0.3 therefore if you are using a calculator you can either type in 3 divided by 10 equals, then multiply the answer by 60, or you can multiply 60 by 0.3 if you are not using a calculator then you can cancel out the 60 and the 10 as 60 is a multiple of 10. The 10 cancels out to become 1, so the fraction becomes 3/1 which is just 3, and the 60 cancels out to 6, as 10 goes into 60, 6 times. This will give you 3 * 6 which =18.

Lets assume that you have 60 balls. Divide the balls into 10 groups. Then each group will have 6 balls. Now put the balls in 3 of the 10 groups (that is 3 out of 10 or 3/10) together. You realise you have 6 balls in each group times 3 and that gives you 18 balls.

mathematically, 3/10 of 60 can be written as
3/10 x 60 which is
= 3 x 60/10
= 3 x 6
= 18

You see any number below 10, when divided by ten it gives you the percentage. So 3/10 is 30%. Multiply 0.3 (or 30%) by 60 and you get 18. This means that 18 is 30% of 60.

If you want to explain this to a 4 year old I suggest the following. Have you 60 pieces of the same thing...like some counters. Put them in piles of 6...obviously 10 piles....each pile represent 1/10 of 60. Now you want 3/10 so that's 3 piles of 6....this equals 18. Best of Luck.

First you must work out 1/10 of 60. 60/10=6. then you times it by three to give 3/10 giving your answer of 18.

As a formula this is [number / denominator x numerator]- the denominator is the number at the bottom of a fraction, the numerator is the top number.

Another way to look at this problem is like so....

3/10=?/60

Since 60 is 10*6 take 6 and multiply it by 3 in order to get 18.

Another way is to cross multiply and solve for ?
3*60=10*?
180=10*?

180
------ = 18=?
10
