I saw on the news today that a 97 year old lady is taking Hollywood by storm - she started a showbusiness career four years ago and has now several movies to her credit! I think this is absolutely great! What are your opinions and would you have the gumption to do the same?
I would! How does one go about getting there though? I want to act - have taught Performing Arts and am now retired!

I am considering starting a Yahoo group for the over 50s - we have so much to offer in the work field! I finished working when I was 61 - and I started with that company when I was 58. Orange Broadband Tech Support. Not really me! Now have many other ambitions. Just had two books published and have a musical in the pipeline!

When is it in a person's mind when they start separating
themselves from the rest of society because of their age?
When do they stop going out dancing, listening to new
music or playing sports. When does the adventure of
living stop? Who was it that put an age limit on hopes,
dreams, ambition or fun? What fashionista declared that
everyone should dress "age appropriate" when you have
the best set of legs around. Approach life exactly like you
did when you were 25 with added wisdom. It's a powerful
combination. If you still have the energy and confidence,
know that you're talented and can play diverse roles, get
some head shots together, a resume and try to find an
agent. Making a video of yourself in various roles would
really help. Try some voice over work to get in training and
enroll in a serious acting class with someone who has
connections in the business. Networking is good...they're
always looking for different aged people in film, commercials
and television. The schedules are demanding so be sure
you have the staying power before you try. Again, narration
and voice over is a good place to start. Get some new
music..Pussycat Dolls, Maroon Five, etc., grow your hair,
ride a horse. Get into it again.

I think it totally depends on the person. I'll be 30 this year and I'll be starting medical school in the fall.and some people I've met think thats too old to be starting since I'll finish at 35, but I have friends that have also started at 30 or even older. I read about a guy who started at 40. I don't know if you heard about it but recently a 93 year old woman became the oldest person to ever graduate University. Like I said, its a state of mind, the only walls we have to tear down are the ones we build our selves.

I replaced occupation at 35, so even however I cant compete with a ninety seven twelve months old on the 2d i'm going to alter further down the line. you in basic terms have one existence so i've got faith you ought to cram in as much as you may. i could choose to act too, infact my dream job is to act on River city (scottish cleansing soap opera) or Eastenders (English cleansing soap opera). I see that happenning while Im 40-40 5. Then i could become an indoors fashion designer from 40 5-fifty 5. From fifty 5 i could become a lecturer, the two in nursing, performing or indoors layout. At sixty 5 i will retire and stay someplace warm working a small hotel. nicely heres hoping!!

It is never too late to try new things..that is what keeps up young. I started my business at 58, it is now a multimillion per year deal...I owe nothing to anyone. And I am considering a new career..this one is getting boring. When I come up with it, I will just start it...When I get too old to be daring, I will just pack it up. Hell, I am only 66, life is just starting. Now, If I could just convince my back of this, all will be great :-)

There are some obvious limits - like 87 is probably too old to become a construction worker. But physical limitations aside, polls show that managers often view older workers more positively than younger workers because they have more stability and experience to offer.

Well you could always play a realistic dead person.
(sorry that was a little cruel. eek sorry!)
But seriously I think you should go self employed - contract potential employers and clients directly. Don't try going through agents - they are likely to dismiss you because of your age.
What matters is your attitude. If you believe you can and you can achieve then others will believe in you too.
More power to your elbow.
Good luck!

You shouldn't be if you are capable of working. I am suddenly divorced after 20 years of marriage. I'm 52, energetic and have a lot to offer but cannot find a job and I'm afraid it's because of my age. I'm scared to death of how I'm going to survive.

As far as I'm concerned , it's never too old.
The unfortunate thing is that some employers thing that it is. People just do not seem willing to buy experience.
