Sadly in the world today accusations are page one news, retractions are usually back near the obituaries.

As to getting a lawyer to work for free, many attorneys do pro bono work. Try getting in touch with with local or national level bar association.

First of all a Prosecutor works for the People of a jurisdiction, State or Federal government in CRIMINAL cases; what is sounds like you are talking about is Defamation of Charactor, in which would be a CIVIL case and you would need to find a Civil Liability lawyer.

Secondly, while there and while there are some lawyers take on a contingency fee basis PLUS expenses, it usually is not for Defamation and never for entirely free.

Thirdly, would you want to work and not be paid? Then why expect a lawyer to work for you for free?

Fourthly, the only the person that claims they are being defamed has grounds for a suit and they have the burden of proof by the preponderance of the evidence to prove that the statements were malicious and intential, and without merit.

Just because a Prosecutor drops charges or does not pursue them because there is insufficient proof at this time, does not means that the burden of proof for Defamation, Libel or Slander can be met. All of the above are extremely difficult to prove and litigation is very costly.

Fifthly, neither you, nor a Prosecutor or lawyer can "make" a news source put anything on the news; the news source has the sole right to choose what they deem is news and the public's interest at their discretion.

Sixthly, if you have evidence that someone else committed the crime, then you need to turn it over to police for them to pursue to see if it has any merits. If you start claiming it a "guy who owns the store down the road" and he has not been charged and you have no proof, you could be the one finding yourself on the receiving end of a Defamation, Libel or Slander suit.
