First, your son almost certainly does not have cancer. Yes, men get it, but at his age and assuming no unusual risk factors (kleinfelter's, radiation exposure, etc) it's really unlikely.

Some breast swelling during puberty is very common; 14 would be a typical age. A hard nodule is also fairly common at that age. The sister's tweak may or may not be relevant. He may feel more confident seeing a doctor if he knows the name of his issue; it is a subareolar nodule (at least he doesn't have to use words like breast or nipple). You can also tell him that he doesn't have to explain the issue to the nurse or receptionist, and go with him to back him up on that. But he really should have it looked at.

Please let him know that there is such a thing as male breast cancer. It could be nothing serious but it's best to let the dr check to make sure.

You don't often hear of male breast cancer because so many people think that it's just something that happens to women. It happens to men as well. I think if you mention to him that there is such a thing as breast cancer occurring in some males then maybe it might help him to understand why this is important to have this thing checked out.

Also as the previous poster said because you are concerned just take him even though he may not want to go.

When i was a similar age i had lumps behind each of my nipples they were like small stones, this was also brought on by my older brother giving me a turnNIP. it did eventually go away, I went to my doctor and if i remember correctly ha said it was to do with puberty, get him checked out to be on the safe side.

If you are concerned and it's not going away - take him to the doctor, whether he wants to or not.

You are the parent and if you think he should be taken to the doctor, take him! It will give you peace of mind, solve his problem and show him that he needn't be embarassed or nervous to visit a doctor.

If you are late going into puberty, this is probably normal. We see this a lot in boys who are in their early teens. Eighteen is a bit late. Although probably normal, I encourage a visit to your doctor just to make sure.

probably will go away on its own - since you seem to know what caused it, i would just wait - unless there is a change for the worse...

Yeah, Do what you think. You are the parent, take control of your kid, and tell him that he is going to the doctor. Don't let your kids control you.
