why do we need a control for any urinary test?

I'm not understanding this question but if you are asking why an OB/GYN would run one it is to make sure that something like a urinary tract infection is not going on. If one is going on this can cause a lot of problems for women who are pregnant until it's treated.

Need a bit more info if I'm still not understanding this question right.

hmmmm...... it depends on which test you mean. some tests only have controls which are run once a day, or even once each time a new lot number of reagent is opened. some tests may require that controls be done for each run, which might include any number of urine specimens - they do have some tests which have the controls built in for each test - so it just depends.....
