Only Americans actually believe that. That's because we're so poorly educated that we don't know what else is out there. We've just swallowed all the patriotic kool-aid that's been fed to us. I do think America is great in a lot of way, but these days I'm just plain ashamed to live here.

This question is asked frequently in the Politics section, and is almost exclusively answered by patriotic Americans. Their answers demonstrate a marked lack of understanding for other countries and their blind loyalty to a country that has claimed their status as the greatest in the world, as opposed to being named as such by others....
America is the land of plenty...and that is really the only thing that makes it a great one. You can buy anything at any time, anywhere. And they perceive that as greatness. It is certainly a land of opportunity...but not for all.
As long as people live on the streets and cannot afford healthcare for themselves and their family....America will be regarded as a country of deluded, selfish and misdirected citizens...

In which ways is America better? Can you list examples?
And if America is better than some other country, does it really matter in the long term, do you think anyone else around the world would really care?
As long as Americans are nice and they are happy where they are, that's the main thing.
No where did I see a competition drawn up about which country is best.
Ps, I love living in Australia and am very patriotic, because I've always been here and we have alot of benefits and freedom of speech, but of course we'd have our downside too, same with any country.
Edit, You go Gypsy :D Cooooool another Aussie.
Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi oi oi!

They get to be neighbours to Canada.
What makes Canada so "muc" worse than any other country? It's stuck next to America.

At this point I might prefer a Nordic country where women are equal and well supported.
But USA is definitely in the top ten or so. We were making progress until this huge influx of macho backward immigrants came and started trying to shut down progress.

I give up I had a good think about it and I`m beat. Is it a joke , something to do with changing lightbulbs?
Could be the cultured thoughtfull people
The quiet introspective nature of their government
The respect they show for other nations
There self control
Their charm and modesty
The high Esteem they are regarded with by other nations
Their Low crime rate
Their harmonious relations with their neighbours
Their ability to think for themselves
The way they don`t abandon all sense and logic in the name of Patriotism
Nah Don`t know I give up.

The fact that someone like You can ask a question like this and not be afraid of the consequences must surely tell You something about the regard (or lack there of) in which the opinions of the People of the United States of America are held within the global community. Nobody cares what You think about Yourself or Your Country.
It is what WE think of You and Your fellow Americans, Your Country, It's institutions and Your concept of good and evil which really matters.
And WE are not impressed by Your self opinionated, ego-centric bluster.

it used to be a great country, still is in many ways...but our culture here is all about image, the media has taken over our lives to the point we even act fake sometimes. The laws are messed up, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, the middle class is struggling and disappearing widening the gap between us and the rich. The rich Jewish lobby controls the politicians like a bunch of puppets on a string. Did u know that one of the questions they ask a newly assigned president is what are their thoughts on Isreal. wtf?!?!?

I was born in America and have lived in 3 other countries since. I have preferred living in each one of those three countries (Germany, France and Australia) to living in America.
Now that America has become Amerika, the decision is even easier.
In fact, I live in Australia currently, and am working on citizenship.
In my book, anywhere but Amerika.
